I am compiling a list of studios and teachers who offer ashtanga classes in Colorado. I’ve listed a few here, and am researching more, but in the meantime, if you know of any ashtanga classes, please drop me a line at yogagumbo (atsign) gmail (dot) com. If you are a yoga teacher and would like to be listed, let me know that as well. It’s a big state, and I know there are sometimes classes in community rec centers, etc. that are not easily found on the web. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Certified Teachers (Information on how teachers are certified can be found here.)
With over 27 years of experience, Annie is one of the most adept practitioners of traditional Ashtanga yoga. She received her Advanced B teaching certification from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1995 and continues to study extensively in India. She resides in the small mountain community of Crestone. Annie offers local community classes and custom retreat weekends for small groups in Crestone, as well as private instruction and national/ international workshops.
Richard Freeman has been a student of yoga since 1968. He has spent nearly nine years in Asia studying various traditions which he incorporates into the Ashtanga yoga practice taught by his principal teacher, K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. His background includes Zen and Vipassana Buddhist practice, Bhakti and traditional Hatha Yoga in India, Sufism in Iran and, starting in 1974, an in-depth study of Iyengar Yoga. He is still an avid student of both Western and Eastern philosophy, as well as Sanskrit. His ability to juxtapose various viewpoints, without losing the depth and integrity of each, has helped Richard develop a unique, metaphorical teaching style. He lives with his family in Boulder, Colorado where he is the director of the Yoga Workshop.

I’m looking for Ashtanga yoga in or near Breckenridge. Know anyone? My friend is moving there and I’m trying to get her interested. Also for when I visit, I like to drop and take classes at other places at times -
I have not come across any ashtanga teachers in Breckenridge during my searches but if I do, I’ll post them here!

I don’t know of any Mysore classes in Golden, but Carol Driste would be a good person for you to contact, as she lives in Golden as well and may know of options! (There are Mysore classes at the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, but that would be a bit of a drive!)
Good luck!

I live in Durango and I’m a certified instructor, but i haven’t been teaching since I moved here, just continuing my home practice. I’m looking for someone to work with for further study in Ashtanga. Haven’t been to many other areas in CO, so not sure where towns are located. Know anyone near me who I could work with or attend training with?
thank you
Robyn, I’m sorry, I just saw this — a good place to find ashtanga retreats is http://www.ashtanga.com. I don’t know of any around here at this time.
Kelli, you should definitely get in touch with Annie Pace. http://www.anniepace.com She is a wonderful teacher and lives in Crestone, CO. Not real close to Durango, but worth the drive. She is in India right now but will be back in late Jan.
hello, and thank you for this resource!
i’m moving to colorado springs next summer and hope to find local ashtanga classes, or at least a good vinyasa teacher for practice during the week.
would you have anyone to suggest?
Hello,
I recently moved to Durango and am looking for someone to practice Ashtanga with. I have been to a few other yoga classes here, but am yearning for an Ashtanga/Mysore class.
If anyone knows of someone who is teaching Ashtanga in the Durango area, please advise…many thanks!
Hi My name is Michelle and I just moved to Denver from Sydney, Australia. I am looking for an Ashtanga Yoga teacher/studio in Denver. Thanks very much!
Michelle, thank you for your question — it prompted me to correct a gross oversight which is to list Joan Isbell, who is one of the very few Ashtanga teachers in Denver. Her information is above.
here’s a wonderful ashtanga teacher i didn’t see here: Leigh Nicole http://www.splendidyoga.com/leighanicole/home.html
